Experience a lesson on leadership from The Road to Wisdom presented by members of the National Curriculum Development Committee. Attendees will work together to describe the importance of high-quality leadership and cultivate an understanding and development of specific leadership styles and skills.
Let’s Talk Values: Kim Novak
“Focus on your Values” is often a suggested solution for engaging members in improving chapter operations and yet for students leading chapters and councils this task can be more difficult than it seems. Facilitator will provide an interactive session during which students will learn how to engage their chapter or community in meaningful dialogues about what values “look like” in action. Learn how focusing values conversations on what your chapter or community is supposed to look like instead of what it cannot look like will improve operations and increase involvement from membership. Strategies for getting the chapter or member’s voices into the room and actively engaged in advancing values-based experiences will be provided.
History of the Ritual of Kappa Kappa Psi: 1919-2007: Aaron Moore
How has the Ritual of Kappa Kappa Psi evolved since it was first created in 1919/1920? This workshop will explore the revision history of the Ritual of Kappa Kappa Psi from the original draft through the 2007 revision, including the introduction of Fraternity symbolism and other major/minor updates. In addition to exploring the substance of the changes, we will also seek an understanding of the reason for changes. This workshop is open only to initiated members of Kappa Kappa Psi who are in good standing due to the nature of the topic.
Successfully Managing Conflict: Kirk Randazzo
Many of us prefer to avoid conflict whenever possible, often because we do not know how to handle confrontational situations or difficult people. This presentation explores some fundamental conflict resolution skills and strategies. Initially, we focus on the typical responses individuals adopt when conflict erupts. Then we turn to skills and approaches that one can adopt to resolve specific conflicts. Finally, we discuss specific long-term strategies that will help minimize the potentially negative consequences of conflict.
The Officer Life Cycle: Justin Chesak, Alaina Peters
Join Alaina Peters and Justin Chesak as they look into the five stages of being a Chapter Officer. This workshop will look into strategies of goal setting, as well as implementation of ideas, the analysis of your work, and more.

Leadership in 3D: Kirk Randazzo
This presentation focuses on building fundamental leadership development skills. It begins with a discussion of how leadership is a continuum upon which all individuals can improve and positively change or affect their corner of the world. We then discuss the 3-D’s of leadership – Different, Dependable, and Dynamic –and how to develop these skills within ourselves. Finally, we focus on some additional aspects of leading others that will help us become more effective leaders in our sphere of influence.

The Road to Wisdom: Vice President of Membership Training:

Designed for current or aspiring Vice Presidents of Membership, this workshop will provide an orientation to The Road to Wisdom. Join members of the National Curriculum Development Committee as we walk through the Vice President of Membership Teaching Manual, discuss elements of good teaching and activities, and make connections to your chapter’s current MEP. Attendees will walk away with tools, strategies, and support that will provide a solid foundation to begin implementing The Road to Wisdom in their chapter.
The Road to Wisdom: Our Musicianship Matters:

Experience a lesson on musicianship from The Road to Wisdom presented by members of the National Curriculum Development Committee. Attendees will analyze and evaluate the influence of musicianship as a value of Kappa Kappa Psi and the fraternity’s musical contributions to the college/university band movement.
Music in the Ritual: Christine Beason
If we are a BAND Fraternity, why do many chapters use ORCHESTRAL music in the ritual? This workshop gives many suggestions of original works for band to use in the ritual.
Ritual Based Leadership: Kirk Randazzo
This workshop focuses on connecting lessons from Third Degree to leadership. The primary goal of this workshop is to provide a series of dynamic, exciting, and extremely interactive sessions that focus on the actual implementation of leadership skills into the Fraternity (at all levels), the band program, and life in general. The material is designed around the lessons of Third Degree to provide readily identifiable themes for audience members to utilize as they explore specific leadership skills and strategies.

The introductory lesson from The Road to Wisdom. Attendees will develop an understanding of the national organization of Kappa Kappa Psi through analyzing the Mission and Vision statements, Preamble, Creed, and National Brand of Kappa Kappa Psi (Musicianship, Leadership, Service).
Strolling & Striving In The Brilliant Light of Brotherhood:

We are all meant to shine, as individuals, chapters, districts, and as a brotherhood. When we bring our unique skills to the attention of our chapters, we energize them and encourage each other. We have brothers who have all kinds of skills &interests that we should cultivate for their benefit and the benefit of our fellow band members. Learn in this workshop how your unique talents can become expressions of brotherhood that make your overall chapter shine brighter.
P.S. Speaking of expressing brotherhood, we will be learning how to “throw Ks”/stroll so be ready to be active during a portion of this workshop.
Lessons of the Ritual: Eric Morson
Our Ritual offers valuable lessons – lessons that can be applied in our lives, both within and outside the fraternity. This workshop identifies and discusses those lessons and the key to unlocking them for our Brotherhood. It offers a blueprint and a plan to properly prepare for and perform the Ritual, so that its depth of meaning is delivered effectively, and both initiates and members are drawn into its power. I’ll show you how the Ritual not only parallels your life, but how it is already guiding it. Once you see the connection, you’ll feel more connected to our Brotherhood than you ever have before.
